Recent research by eMarketer has revealed the huge reach of internet use and confidence in ecommerce amongst the UK population.
UK Internet users, those people who regularly use the internet at least once a month, total almost 37 million people or over 60% of the population. This figure is expected to rise to nearly 70% by 2012.
The great news for online businesses and ecommerce sites is that UK internet users are also migrating to ecommerce: UK online sales are expected to account for at least 40% of all online sales throughout Western Europe.
A separate report by Accenture shows that some 71% of online shoppers also use the web to preview and compare prices and check availability of stock before they go into a physical store to make a purchase.
This presents a wonderful opportunity to those UK businesses already online not only to increase their online transactions but also to improve customer satisfaction and customer service. Integrating online and physical presences more closely should pay dividends. This means useable websites that are customer focused, interactive and informative.
